In either case, buyers were happy to pay for the privilege to order something special, despite knowing that it would take time to complete the special order. The allure of buying that unique vehicle canceled out the extra wait time vs. purchasing a new car from the local inventory. These days the car-buying landscape has greatly shifted. Gone are the days of rows and rows of new in stock vehicles to choose from, so when you need something different, then buying directly from the factory is your best option. If one needs a vehicle and can’t wait for a special order, then buying from the vehicles available on the lot now is likely your only real choice.
The enjoyable part of custom ordering your new vehicle is that you are able to select the exact technology you want. You can order your car with NAV, leather seating, and All-Wheel Drive, and it can be your lucky color: green! In the past, you might have compromised depending on the available new cars. You might be able to get all of the upgrades you wanted, but it was Front-Wheel Drive instead of All-Wheel Drive. Or you could get AWD, but it comes with cloth seats instead of leather. When you custom order your next vehicle, you get what you want.
Conversely, by custom ordering your new vehicle from the manufacturer, you don’t pay for the upgrade you don’t need. Maybe you needed All-Wheel Drive and NAV but didn’t care about the color or leather seats. While you may not be able to individually choose each option ala carte, yet by ordering your new car, you can reduce the unwanted upgrades. Be sure to check out the available option packages, as they often have the most popular upgrades together at a lower price.
