2008 Toyota Sequoia

Overview

Sequoia is completely new for 2008, with a new body, new interior, new chassis, and an available new 5.7-liter V-8 engine combined with a six-speed transmission. The Sequoia also comes with an increased focus on efficiency, performance and driver/passenger comfort, given that both gasoline prices and environmental concerns are on the rise.

Engine and Performance

An available new DOHC, 5.7-liter, V-8 engine enables the 2008 Sequoia to provide acceleration that is among the best in its class, especially while towing. Sequoia engineers developed the new engine to produce 381 horsepower, one of the highest outputs in this vehicle class. The engine is ULEV-II compliant, and uses four valves per cylinder as well as dual variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) to produce 401 pound-feet of torque. A smooth-shifting, five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission (ECT) is mated to the standard 4.7-liter V-8, while a new six-speed ECT automatic is part of the powertrain package when the available 5.7-liter V-8 is selected.

Body and Styling

An all-new platform now provides exterior dimensions that compare with other vehicles in the Sequoia's class. Its overall length, width and height have been increased, the wheelbase is longer, and its front and rear tracks wider. Front and rear overhangs, meanwhile, have been reduced. Inside, highly efficient packaging gives the new Sequoia a very roomy cabin and capacious luggage space. Designers have taken special care to create comfortable, spacious seats in all positions.

Safety Features

The 2008 Sequoia employs active and passive safety features. It is equipped with Toyota's star safety system, which includes anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution; brake assist; vehicle stability control; traction control in the 2WD models; and active traction control on 4WD models.
